School History

The school, situated at the entrance to Rivermeade estate, is in the parish of St. Canice’s, Finglas. Plans to build the school were set in motion in 1979. The name Mary Queen of Ireland was chosen in memory of Pope John Paul II’s visit to Ireland in September 1979 and of the Dedication of the new Basilica in Knock, Co. Mayo to Our Lady Queen of Ireland.

Mr Joe Crowe was appointed Principal and the school opened on 1st September 1981 (Tuesday). The school is very much the focal point of Rivermeade and because of this there is a great bond between the home life and school life of the children. When the school first opened there were 148 pupils.
