Active School Partnerships

What Club Are You In?

We are delighted that so many of our students take part in physical activities outside of school. Children are encouraged to bring in their medals, photos or stories of their achievements in physical activities that they do in their spare time.

All classes did a survey about what clubs and sports they do after school. Fifth class used the results for each class to make bar charts and tally charts. You can see some photos of their work below.

The results showed:

  • GAA is the most popular after school activity among our students, with 23 of our students taking part in GAA clubs after school.
  • Soccer is also popular with our students, with 15 of our students playing soccer in their own time.
  • 2 of our students play basketball.
  • 7 of our students do dancing.
  • 6 of our students do hurling.
  • 5 of our students go swimming every week.
  • 4 of our students do gymnastics.
  • 1 of our students goes horseriding.

And even though some students may not take part in organised sports or clubs this year, a lot of our boys and girls do physical activities after school.

  • 17 of our students enjoy walking as a hobby.
  • 12 boys and girls said they enjoy rollerskating or skateboarding.
  • 11 of our students say they enjoy going for a run in their spare time.
  • 8 students enjoy cycling.
  • 2 of our students play tennis.
  • 1 of our students enjoys golf.

We are very proud of our active students!

Parent and Student Surveys

A big thank you to everyone who completed our parent and student Active School surveys. Information gathered from the results of this survey will be used to improve our delivery of the PE curriculum, yard time and provision of extra physical activities for our students.

If you have not done so already, you can access the parents survey via this link.

GAA

Our school has a wonderful partnership with our local GAA club. Every year, our students receive a block of GAA lessons from Nigel, the local GAA club coach. During this time, children practice skills from the games and athletics strands of the curriculum. We are also delighted that so many of our students get involved in GAA club outside of school.

Here are some photos of our students enjoying their GAA PE lessons with Nigel and their teachers.

Fingal Local Sports Partnership

Stephen and Noel from our Fingal Local Sports Partnership offer us a 6 week strength and conditioning workshop each year. As well as covering the games and athletics strand, it also integrates with the games and dance strands of the curriculum.

It was designed to improve skills such as balance, running, ball skills and travelling.

We have also worked with Stephen and Noel to take part in Marathon Kids in the past.

Unfortunately due to Covid-19 restrictions, we were unable to take part in this workshop this year. However, we look forward to taking part again soon!

Here are some photos of our students enjoying their strength and conditioning workshop in previous year.

Active School Committee

Being on the Active School committee is a very important job in our school for our students. Members of the Active School Committee are elected near the start of each school year and are committed to making sure their fellow students in all classes are as active as possible during the school year.

Roles and responsibilities of the Active School Committee include:

  • Being playground leaders during yard time.
  • Creating and leading our Shake and Wake routine.
  • Keeping our PE and yard equipment tidy and regularly checking to see if anything needs to be replaced.
  • Holding regular meetings during the year to come up with new ideas and activities to keep our school staff and students active.
  • Communicate their classmates ideas and opinions to the Active Schools Committee.
  • Help to organise Active Week activities.

Unfortunately, during the year 2020-2021, our Active School’s committee are not able to run some of their duties due to Covid-19 safety measures in our school. However, each class has been in charge of their own active duties in the school. Our senior classes have been amazing at organising some of our active school events and activities. A huge well done to all students.

Active School Committee 2019-2020

We would like to sincerely thank our Active School Committee members from last year for their wonderful work. They organised wonderful games for all students to play, made an energetic and fun Shake and Wake routine for all classes, kept our PE equipment safe and tidy and came up with some amazing new ideas. Thank you Aimee Treacy, Paris McAleer, Beth McGarvey, Lewis Rice Byrne, Cillian Dufficy, Jamie Regan, Alisha Keogh and Leon King.
